CHALLENGE UNLIMITED REAPS BENEFITS OF MIPRO WIRELESS

Avlex Corporation contributes to sound reinforcement system at venerable therapy facility

Andover, MA – October 2007… Set among the charming surroundings of a New England farm, Challenge Unlimited at Ironstone Farm provides beneficial therapy for people with a wide range of physical, emotional, and cognitive disabilities. What sets this organization apart from others with similar missions is its use of horses in a working farm environment. Using the horse’s unique ability to enhance a person’s movements and touch a person’s heart, the farm’s professional staff of instructors and therapists work with 35 program horses to serve 450 to 500 children and adults weekly. The venerable institution recently completed construction of a new indoor riding arena, and with charitable contributions from several manufacturers including a new MIPRO wireless system from North American distributor Avlex Corporation, a sound reinforcement system (SR) was deployed.

Peter Spollett, Vice President of the Sound and Communications Division for Haverhill, MA-based Intelligent Marketing, Inc. (IMI) was one of the key persons responsible for organizing and, ultimately, installing Challenge Unlimited’s new audio system. IMI is a leading U.S. firm specializing in the sales, marketing, and technical support of commercial security, sound, and A/V products and serves as the New England representative for Avlex Corporation. According to Spollett, “Challenge Unlimited at Ironstone Farm is very well known throughout this region of the country and, upon reading about their new riding arena, I contacted them to inquire about sound reinforcement in the facility. I discovered this was an as-yet unresolved issue. The organization relies considerably on the good will of volunteers, so I saw the opportunity for the pro audio industry to get involved.”

Spollett contacted several professional audio equipment manufacturers and was able to secure the necessary gear to equip Challenge Unlimited’s new arena. Going considerably further than simply arranging the product donations, Spollett, with assistance from IMI associate Reggie Payne, and Steve Brooks, Eastern Regional Sales Manager for Atlas Sound, actually installed the new sound system. The project was completed in September 2007.

Key to the success of the new sound system was the ability to communicate wirelessly throughout the arena. For this portion of the SR system, Spollett installed wireless products from the MIPRO catalog, including the ACT-707D Dual Channel Receiver, the ACT-707HE PLL Synthesized handheld microphone, and the ACT-707TE PLL Synthesized body-pack transmitter. “The instructors and therapists require considerable freedom of movement while working with the patients and the horses,” says Spollett, “and the MIPRO wireless system was the perfect choice for this environment. It’s easy to use and delivers crystal clear audio performance. The MIPRO system’s Automatic Channel Targeting (ACT™) function makes it a snap to locate an open radio frequency and it delivers high gain before feedback—enabling the system to provide strong audio levels among all the loudspeakers throughout the space.”

During the installation, Spollett discovered that he had inadvertently omitted a small part that was required to complete the MIPRO setup, and this is when he discovered, first hand, Avlex Corporation’s responsive customer and technical support services. “When I realized I had omitted a necessary small part from my order,” said Spollett, “I contacted Avlex and they assured me they’d attend to the order promptly, and they did just that. I had the part the next day. You can’t beat that level of customer service.”

With the new sound reinforcement system in place and the MIPRO wireless equipment working flawlessly, Deedee O’Brien, Executive Director for Challenge Unlimited at Ironstone Farm, reflected on the new equipment and the impact it has already had on the staff and patients. “We’re absolutely thrilled with the new system,” said O’Brien. “Clear communication and mobility are critical to the type of work we perform here, and the new MIPRO wireless system that Avlex Corporation was kind enough to donate has made a tremendous difference for us. We are extremely appreciative of their generosity.”

About the MIPRO wireless system

As the world's first ACT (Automatic Channel Targeting) function in a wireless system, the MIPRO ACT-707D Dual Channel Receiver automatically locks the receiver and transmitter into the same operating frequency, avoiding possible errors and accidental changes so common with traditional manual adjustments. The ACT-707HE PLL Synthesized handheld microphone’s supercardioid vocal capsule with high fidelity, wide frequency response, high dynamic range, and transient response contributes superior sound quality and has an ergonomically-designed housing for comfortable handling. The ACT-707TE PLL Synthesized body-pack transmitter incorporates MIPRO’s proprietary “Photo-Cell Coupling” high dynamic range and high fidelity modulation circuitry, built-in level adjustment capability, and provides a selectable impedance switch for microphone or guitar.
