AVLEX PA-200 POWER AMP THE PERFECT FIT FOR SPACE
LIMITED INSTALLATIONS
1RU form factor and shallow depth ideal for many
equipment racks
Mechanicsburg, PA – April 2008… When it came time to replace
an aging power amp at the Mechanicsburg Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s
Witnesses’ meeting facility, freelance sound designer and installer
Greg Bressler faced a common, yet daunting challenge. He had precious
little space in the equipment rack for the replacement unit, and yet
he needed suitable power and clean sound quality capable of driving
two distinctly different loudspeaker systems. After examining several
models from a variety of equipment manufacturers, he selected the Avlex
PA-200 power amp—distributed in North America by Kansas City,
MO-based Avlex Corporation.
While discussing some available options with Paul Moyer, salesman at
Moyer Electronic Supply of Pottsville, PA (the authorized Avlex dealer
in the area), Moyer suggested Bressler take a close look at the Avlex
PA-200. “The Avlex PA-200 is a contractor grade power amp that
delivers generous amounts of power and has a very compact form factor,”
states Moyer. “We’ve had tremendous success with this model
and, upon hearing Greg’s concerns, I suggested this amp may very
well be the solution.” As it turns out, Moyer’s suggestion
was spot on for this particular project.
The meeting hall at the Mechanicsburg Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s
Witnesses is approximately 46 feet wide by 53 feet deep and has fixed
seating. According to Bressler, “In this particular space, the
power amp drives the entire facility. The PA-200 is configured so that
channel 1 powers two loudspeaker clusters—each consisting of two
Bose MM-102 loudspeakers. The clusters are suspended in the center of
the space, with the first cluster over the stage area at the front,
and the second cluster positioned approximately 14 feet into the room.
This part of the system is operating at 4 ohms, and the PA-200’s
power rating of 200 watts per channel is just perfect for this size
area.”
“The amp’s second channel drives a 70-volt distributed
sound system through a line balancing transformer,” continued
Bressler. “This second channel powers all secondary areas including
the lobby and restrooms. In these areas, ceiling loudspeakers are utilized.”
When queried about those aspects of the PA-200 that made it the right
choice for this particular project, Bressler offered the following assessment.
“I listened to several different power amps,” said Bressler,
“and I honestly found the PA-200 to have cleaner and more evenly
distributed power throughout the entire frequency range—not only
for dialog, but particularly so for music. With music reproduction,
the PA-200 delivers clear, crisp performance across the entire frequency
spectrum. This wasn’t the case with other models I auditioned.
Of equal importance, rack space was extremely limited. The PA-200’s
1RU size was just what we needed and, unlike many other power amps,
the depth of the unit is quite modest, so the amp doesn’t protrude
out of the back of the equipment rack.”
Addressing technical questions can be a challenge for the most qualified
of sales professionals. When Bressler had questions, Paul Moyer was
ready—with a little help from Avlex Corporation’s technical
support group. “I get a lot of questions about the gear we sell,”
said Moyer, “and it’s impossible to have every answer. Whenever
I’ve called Avlex, I’ve received prompt, courteous support,
and this is really important when you have a customer waiting. Their
support services are second to none, and it’s precisely this type
of service that enables us to provide our customers with accurate information.”
With their new Avlex PA-200 power amp up and running, Bressler reports
that his client is extremely pleased. “Everyone has been very
complimentary about the system’s performance,” states Bressler.
“I believe Avlex has a real winner on its hands with this amp.
I’ve been equally impressed with the MIPRO wireless system (also
distributed by Avlex) I installed there. They have a MIPRO ACT 707F
receiver frame stocked with 4 ACT 707MC receiver modules and ACT 707HM
handheld transmitters. The system delivers clear, dependable performance.
For the money, I believe the products we get through Avlex represent
tremendous bang for the buck.”
